At the core of Jovan Turčinović’s practice is an interest in the relationships between objects, bodies, and space, and in the separation of things from the systems and functions they once belonged to, allowing them to develop new bodies, relationships, and forms of action.

Working with materials that often exist in the background, Turčinović removes them from their original contexts. Rather than treating objects as fixed entities, he uses them to create situations of suspension and potential. A sound may be about to occur, an object may appear to be falling, or a remembered space may emerge without being literally reconstructed.

Through minimal gestures, he alters relationships between things and allows the surrounding space to become an active part of the work. He recontextualizes objects not to dominate the space, but to let them activate it. He collects bed sheets that hold a door open, balances office lights on bang snaps, or simply turns off a light in an exhibition space. Through these small shifts, objects, people, and architecture are brought into new relationships.

Turčinović’s practice is atmospheric, working through traces, absence, memory, and the potential held within seemingly ordinary situations. He aims to create space for imagination, attention, and the possibility of another relation.
